Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between pure pattu and semi pattu?

Pure pattu is silk through both warp and weft, with real zari. Semi pattu blends silk with another fibre, which makes it lighter and less expensive, and it drapes differently. Neither is better than the other. Pure pattu for the muhurtham, semi pattu for a long reception where you will be on your feet all evening.

How long does a made-to-fit pattu kurta take?

Four to six weeks. Silk gets cut once, and the tailoring cannot be rushed without it showing in the photographs. If your date is sooner than that, talk to a stylist and we will tell you honestly what is still possible.

Will the colour match my wife's saree?

Usually, yes. Bring a photo or, better, a piece of the saree fabric to the store and a stylist will hold it against the pattu in daylight. Screen colours lie; daylight does not.

How do I care for a pattu kurta?

Dry clean only, and only when it actually needs it. Store it folded in a cotton cloth rather than plastic, and refold along different lines every few months so the zari does not crack along a permanent crease.

Can I wear a pattu kurta to something that is not a wedding?

Yes. Temple visits, gruhapravesham, Sankranti, a family pooja. Lighter chiniya pattu and fine silk suit these well. Save the heavy zari for the wedding day.

Pattu is the silk South Indian families have worn to weddings for generations — woven on Kanchipuram looms, weighted with real zari, and made to outlast the occasion it was bought for. This collection brings that fabric into kurtas cut for how men actually dress today: cleaner lines, a better shoulder, and nothing that looks borrowed from a previous decade.

The fabrics

Kanjivaram pattu in traditional shades for the muhurtham. Chiniya pattu, lighter on the shoulders and far easier through a four-hour ceremony. Fine silk for the drape without the weight. Pure pattu and double pure tissue for the wedding day itself, when the photographs matter most.

Who wears it

Grooms for the muhurtham and pelli. Fathers and brothers who have to stand beside them and hold their own. Guests at a South Indian wedding who would rather get it right than guess. And anyone dressing for a temple visit, a gruhapravesham or Sankranti, where lighter pattu is the better call.

Made to fit

Every pattu kurta here can be made to your measurements — sleeve, length, collar, and how the fabric falls from the shoulder. Silk is unforgiving when it does not fit, which is the entire reason we do it this way rather than selling you a size and hoping. Allow four to six weeks; the weave and the tailoring both take the time they take.

Come and see the zari in daylight before you decide. Our store is on Road No. 36, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, and a stylist will go through fabric, fit and colour with you — including matching the kurta to the bride's saree, which is easier in person than on a screen.
