Best Outfits for Men to Wear This Ganesh Chaturthi 2026

Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the best occasions of the year to bring traditional Indian menswear into your wardrobe.

From the main Ganesh pooja at home to temple visits, family gatherings, pandal hopping and evening celebrations, every part of the festival calls for a slightly different look. You do not have to wear the same kurta everywhere — and this year, with the festival running eleven days, you probably shouldn't.

For Ganesh Chaturthi 2026, men can choose between pattu kurtas, embroidered kurtas, printed cotton kurtas, designer shirts and Nehru jacket looks, depending on how traditional or relaxed the celebration is. Here are the best options for each.

The short version

Three pieces will carry you through all eleven days:

  1. A traditional kurta — pattu or embroidered — for the main pooja and temple visits.
  2. A lighter cotton or printed kurta for morning poojas, pandal visits and house calls.
  3. Something washable for visarjan. There will be water, gulal and a crowd.

A Nehru jacket on top of any of these turns a repeated outfit into a new one.

Why a Ganesh motif beats a festive colour

Most festive menswear is festive by colour — gold thread, bright silk, plenty of shine. It would work equally well at a wedding, a Diwali party or a birthday. It is festive in general.

Motif dressing is specific. When the embroidery on your kurta is a Ganesha, a mukut, a lotus, a bodhi leaf, a mandap or a temple arch, the garment belongs to this festival in a way a plain gold kurta never can. It reads as intention rather than wardrobe.

This is the part most festive collections skip, because generic floral and paisley work is easier to produce. Our Ganesh Motif edit is built entirely around the festival's own iconography — Ganesha silhouettes, mukuts, temple borders, lotus and durva leaf work.

One note worth making: deity motifs carry meaning, and most families treat them with the same care they would a photograph in the puja room. Keep them on the upper garment, keep the piece clean, and don't wear it somewhere you would be uncomfortable being seen in it. Beyond that, wearing a Ganesha on Ganesh Chaturthi is exactly what the motif is for.

1. Pattu kurta sets for the main Ganesh pooja

For the main pooja, a pattu kurta set is the strongest traditional choice. Pattu — silk — carries a richness that reads correctly at important poojas, temple visits and family ceremonies in a way no other fabric does.

Look for rich silk texture, traditional zari detailing, woven borders and subtle motifs. Our pattu sets come as a kurta with a matching dhoti, with the border carried through both pieces — that pairing is the traditional South Indian form, and it is what elders will expect at a serious pooja.

Colours that work particularly well: ivory, cream, pale gold, butter gold, pista green and soft peach. Srivatsa in ivory and Vinyas in pearl white are the most classical; Suvarna in butter gold and Vedanta in champagne beige are warmer against most Indian skin tones and photograph better under mixed lighting.

Wear it for: the main Ganesh pooja, temple visits, family rituals and important festive gatherings.

2. Embroidered kurtas for festive celebrations

If you want a traditional look without going fully into pattu, an embroidered kurta is the easy answer. Embroidery around the placket, collar, cuffs or yoke adds enough detail to make the outfit read as festive rather than everyday.

This is where the Ganesh motif pieces sit, and where most men should start:

  • Ishan — saffron, with a Ganesh motif, mukut detail and bead work. Saffron is the colour most directly associated with Ganesha.
  • Ekanth — off-white, with narrative Ganesh embroidery. Photographs cleanly against marigold and red cloth without competing with the idol.
  • Amod — mint green, with Ganesh, temple and mandap worked in zari. Green is the durva colour.
  • Shubhan — peach, with Ganesh, lotus and a banana-leaf hem — the two plants in every Ganpati decoration in the country.
  • Anant — navy, hand-embroidered with Ganesh, palmette and vine in gold. The most detailed piece we make for this festival.

All are falling raw silk, which has the sheen the occasion asks for and enough body to carry embroidery without puckering.

Wear it for: family gatherings, poojas, festive lunches and evening celebrations.

3. Cotton and printed kurtas for daytime celebrations

For the more relaxed parts of the festival, cotton and printed kurtas are comfortable and easy. They work especially well when you are moving — visiting friends, attending smaller poojas, going from one pandal to another in September heat.

Good colours here: white, ivory, yellow, mustard, beige, olive and saffron. Printed kurtas with narrative or traditional motifs give you a festive look without feeling overdressed — Kadali in cream carries a Kalamkari banana-leaf and elephant print, and Eshaan in mustard carries Pichwai-style work.

Wear it for: morning poojas at home, casual celebrations, pandal hopping and family visits.

4. Festive shirts for a modern Ganesh Chaturthi look

Not every Ganesh Chaturthi look has to be a kurta. If your style is more contemporary, a designer or festive shirt works well for casual gatherings and evening celebrations — and it is the piece you will keep wearing long after the festival ends.

Choose rich texture, subtle embroidery and premium fabric over anything loud. Gunina is our Giza cotton shirt with a blue Ganesha silhouette and gold vine — it carries the motif properly while staying cotton, which matters more than it sounds.

Pair it with well-fitted trousers or ethnic pants.

Wear it for: casual celebrations, visiting friends, evening gatherings, dinners and visarjan.

5. Nehru jackets for a sharper festive look

A Nehru jacket is the easiest way to make a simple outfit look considered. Layer one over a plain kurta, a lightly embroidered kurta, a white kurta or a monochrome set and you have a different outfit entirely.

Rangrez in red carries mandala and medallion work in silver — the strongest colour in the room at an evening aarti. Dhew in orange is hand-embroidered with botanical Ganesh work. Sharav in aqua blue carries peacock, lotus and sequin work, and is our most ornate festive jacket.

If you buy one thing beyond a kurta this festival, make it a jacket. It is the piece that lets three kurtas cover eleven days.

Wear it for: main poojas, family photographs, festive lunches, pandal events and evening celebrations.

6. Pattu kurta with a Nehru jacket for a statement look

For a large family gathering, you can take the traditional look one step further and pair a pattu kurta with a complementary Nehru jacket.

The rule: keep one element simple. If the pattu already carries heavy zari, choose a cleaner jacket. If the kurta is understated, let the jacket carry the pattern. Two heavily worked pieces together read as costume, not craft.

Wear it for: large family celebrations, premium festive gatherings, and occasions where you want to be the most dressed-up man in the room.

What to wear to each part of the celebration

Occasion What works Why
Main Ganesh pooja Pattu kurta set · embroidered kurta · kurta + Nehru jacket Your most traditional outfit belongs here
Morning pooja at home Cotton kurta · printed kurta Comfortable and appropriate for something intimate
Temple visit Pattu kurta · traditional kurta Keep it clean; avoid unnecessary layering
Pandal visit Printed kurta · festive shirt · light Nehru jacket Crowds and queues — choose something you can move in
Family lunch Embroidered kurta · Nehru jacket · designer shirt A slightly sharper festive look
Evening celebration Raw silk kurta · Nehru jacket · statement shirt Deeper colours and richer fabrics work better under lamps
Visarjan Cotton shirt or kurta · dark trousers Water, gulal, a crowd. Nothing you would mourn

On visarjan, plainly: do not wear your best silk to a procession. Whatever your budget, this day calls for cotton you can wash and shoes you would not mind losing. We would rather you wore something inexpensive than ruined something good.

Kurta, shirt or Nehru jacket — which should you choose?

  • Choose a pattu kurta set if you are attending the main pooja or want the most traditional look available.
  • Choose an embroidered kurta if you want something festive that works across several occasions.
  • Choose a printed or cotton kurta if comfort is the priority — pandals, daytime, September humidity.
  • Choose a festive shirt if you prefer modern menswear and want something you will wear after the festival.
  • Choose a Nehru jacket if you want to elevate a simple kurta without buying a heavily embroidered outfit.

Best colours for Ganesh Chaturthi

Colour Why it works Best for
Saffron & orange The colour most associated with Ganesha Sthapana, main pooja
Yellow & mustard Auspicious, and strong in daylight Morning poojas, pandal visits
Green Durva grass — the offering Ganesha is said to favour Any day
White & ivory Clean, ceremonial, photographs beautifully Main pooja, temple visits
Royal blue Rich, and the best base for gold zari Pattu and embroidered pieces
Maroon & wine Deeper, warmer under lamplight Evening celebrations
Beige & gold Premium and subtle Family gatherings, photographs
Black Conventionally avoided for puja Skip it

One rule holds across all of them: at a festival lit by flame, warm colours look intentional and cool greys look like you came from the office.

Dressing for Ganesh Chaturthi in Hyderabad

Most festival style guides are written for Mumbai. Hyderabad's Ganeshotsav is its own thing, and it asks something different of your wardrobe.

The city runs eleven days of pandal visits, and the big ones — Khairatabad, Balapur — mean crowds, queues and a lot of standing, outdoors, in September warmth. That is an argument for cotton and for kurtas you can move in, not for your heaviest silk.

The Hussain Sagar and Tank Bund visarjan on Anant Chaturdashi is the most demanding day of the year for clothing in this city. Immersion crowds, water, gulal, hours on your feet. Cotton, dark trousers, and footwear you have already broken in.

We design and make everything here in Hyderabad, and this is the calendar we build our festive collection around.

Looking after it

  • Haldi, kumkum and lamp oil. Blot, never rub. Silk goes to a dry cleaner within 48 hours — oil sets permanently after that.
  • You will be barefoot on a floor for hours. Kurta length matters: mid-thigh sits better cross-legged than knee-length. Sit down in it at home first.
  • September is still humid. Falling raw silk and Giza cotton both breathe. Anything with a high polyester content will not forgive you.
  • Loose sleeves near lamps. During aarti, push them up or wear the jacket.
  • Steam, don't iron — and never directly over embroidery. Iron from the reverse, through a cotton cloth.

Frequently asked questions

When is Ganesh Chaturthi 2026?
Monday, 14 September 2026, with the Sthapana muhurat around 11:02am–1:31pm. Anant Chaturdashi and the main visarjan fall on Friday, 25 September 2026. Shorter observances immerse on 15, 16, 18 or 20 September.

What should men wear for Ganesh Chaturthi?
Pattu kurta sets, embroidered kurtas, printed cotton kurtas, Nehru jackets or festive shirts, depending on which part of the festival you are dressing for.

What should men wear for the main Ganesh pooja?
A pattu kurta set is the most traditional choice. An embroidered kurta, or a kurta with a Nehru jacket, both work well if you want something lighter or more structured.

Can men wear shirts for Ganesh Chaturthi?
Yes. Festive and designer shirts work particularly well for casual gatherings, pandal visits, evening celebrations and visarjan. For the main pooja, a kurta reads considerably better.

Is a Nehru jacket suitable for Ganesh Chaturthi?
Yes. A Nehru jacket over a kurta is one of the best options when you want a more dressed-up festive look without buying a heavily embroidered outfit.

Which colours are good for Ganesh Chaturthi?
Saffron, yellow, mustard, green, white, ivory, royal blue, maroon and gold tones all work well. Black is conventionally avoided for puja.

What should men wear for visarjan?
Cotton, dark on the bottom half, and footwear you can walk in for hours and would not mind ruining. Save silk for the aartis.

What is the best fabric for a Ganesh Chaturthi kurta?
Pattu silk for the main pooja. Falling raw silk for aartis and evening celebrations — it carries embroidery without puckering. Giza cotton for daytime, pandal visits and visarjan.

Dress for every part of the celebration

Ganesh Chaturthi is not one event. There is a morning pooja, a temple visit, a family lunch, a pandal circuit and an evening celebration — and your outfit can change with each one.

Choose a pattu kurta set for the main pooja, an embroidered or printed kurta for festive gatherings, a Nehru jacket when you want to dress up, and a designer shirt for something more contemporary.

Whatever your style, the idea is simple: wear something festive that still feels like you.
